SCARS
After a long morning...this is what I have to say:
Scars
I cried today and mom held me and told me it’s alright
It’s just because my scars are out there, right there, in plain sight.
“Most people hide them from the world”
she told me as we hugged.
“They keep them on the inside and
think they won’t be bugged.”
From what she told me I think I know
Why people can be mean
It’s because their hurting in a different way
A way that can’t be seen.
My back is like a railroad track
My journey you can trace
I cannot rough -house on the playground
I’ll never win a race.
But inside, I feel beautiful
I know that I am free
I am growing every day
In a way you cannot see.
I understand that life’s a gift
That friendship is one, too
I would never dig deep down inside
To find things that are wrong with you.
So please don’t laugh and point and stare
And say things that are mean
I don’t think you know how much I care
When you pick on what you see.
SEE ME, is what I want to yell
The pretty me inside.
Because I would never, ever tell
The things YOU try to hide.
See my smile, my sparkling eyes
Hear the happiness when I talk
This body is just an awkward disguise
So please don’t stand and gawk.
My Mother says I’m smart and sweet
And so what if I’m not tall…
I’m one of the biggest girls you’ll ever meet,
Inside –out and all.
